I have loved babies since I was old enough to tell there was somebody younger than me, and always loved hearing women's birth stories. In May 2007, I had the privilege of attending the birth of my best friend's son. She had a beautiful home water birth and it changed my life. I began contemplating how I might become more involved in the process of birth (as I have no medical background, the prospect seemed dim) and came across the concept of a Doula. I did nothing about it until three years later, the same friend was pregnant again and I knew I had to be at her birth. This gave me the impetus to get some Doula training (my class happened to be taught by Penny Simkin). I am super passionate about encouraging and educating pregnant (and non-pregnant) women on pregnancy, labor and babies.

Shawn and Katy NickersonWhen I am not attending births I teach piano lessons at home, spend time with my amazing husband, who I married on March 10, 2007, and in our free time we like to try new restaurants.
